Gianfranco Gualtierotti
Born in Rome, then moved to Pistoia, Gianfranco Gualtierotti began his career as a designer in 1967, at first within the PERMAFLEX group, then, from 1970 to 1975, he directed the technical office of UNO PI, where he developed a series of products that applied cutting-edge mechanical technologies to the industrial use of polyurethane foam in furniture. From 1975 to 1977 he collaborated with Giovannetti in Pistoia, where he refined his experience, in particular designing various systems for convertible sofas. In 1977 he opened his own industrial design and technical consultancy studio in Pistoia. He has collaborated with several great names in Italian luxury furniture, such as Dema, Cassina, Zanotta and many more. His products are published in the most important furniture magazines and have granted him international recognition, in particular he won the first Italian design prize in Rome in 1985 with Edra’s Bilbò Sofa and the second prize at the Neocon in Chicago in 1987 with Fasem’s P/40 Chair.
